"Toward a Healthy Hawaii 2010"
This website is part of the nationwide Healthy People 2010 initiative to promote health and prevent disease among the people of the United States during the first decade of the 21st Century.
What makes us healthy? What makes us sick? How does your own community measure up to others, your county, the state and the nation?
We are constantly bombarded with facts about the health of people in our community. Information is everywhere—reported in newspapers, on the radio, on TV, on the Internet—yet, at the same time, it is often impossible to locate a specific statistic when we need it.
The reports available on this site are part of an effort by the Hawaii Department of Health to provide you with a source of health-related information on a regular basis. A collection of statistics was produced for each of Hawaii’s four counties, containing a range of indicators chosen to represent the health of Hawaii’s residents. These statistics come from many different sources, ranging from national surveys such as the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey to data collected by the Hawaii Department of Health.
